Currently predominantly involved in repository concept development, knowledge management and safety case support projects for a range of UK and Japanese clients. He also supports projects for recovery after the Fukushima Dai-ichi accident and preparation for eventual site clean-up.

Ian is also the author/co-author of three books and about 350 technical papers, reports, articles and book chapters covering all areas of waste management.
